100+ Awesome Subreddits for Game Designers and Developers

Reddit is a great place for game designers and developers to find a community with which they can share ideas, get inspiration, and even ask for help when they hit a roadblock. We decided to go looking for subreddits that we thought would be helpful with some aspect of game development, and it turns out there are a lot.

In order to make the list a little more manageable, we split it into a number of different categories which you can jump to using the following table of contents:

What Is a Subreddit?

A subreddit is an online community that is hosted on the website reddit. reddit calls itself ‘the front page of the internet’ and grand claims aside, reddit has has become wildly popular in recent years, largely taking the place that forums used to occupy in the early days of the internet.

Each subreddit is a specifically aimed a certain topic, and is moderated by the community with the visibility of posts and comments decided on by the number of ‘upvotes’ or ‘downvotes’ they get. Each subreddits creators are also able to designate administrators who are given the ability to delete inappropriate or off-topic posts and ban troublemakers.

This result of reddits structure is that a good subreddit can be a brilliant place to meet like minded people and learn about, or share information, on whatever topic you love. The downside is that a subreddit is only as good as the people who frequent it and the quality of subreddits can vary wildly.

What Other Resources Are There for Making Games?

Funny you should ask! We love helping people make games, and we regularly post articles about doing just that on our blog.

If you like lists like this one, we also made one about the best YouTube channels for game designers and another about the best YouTube channels for game developers.

We hope you found this list helpful? It’s by no means exhaustive, we tried including every game development-related sub we found that had a decent number of users and was relatively active. If you can think of any others that match that description which we missed, please let us know and we will add it.
